Pumpkin Patch 2011 (Our first trip as a family!)

On Saturday, we took our first trip as a family to Lyman Orchards, a place right here in Connecticut where you can pick your own apples (and other fruits), visit the pumpkin patch, take a trip through their corn maze, and do lots of other fun things! The hubby and I went last year and picked apples to bake apple pies with, but nothing is as fun as taking your baby for their first trip! This is just one of the many things I have on my list of “Things to Make Traditions.”
Our trip started just before noon, with the baby napping in the car on the 40 minute ride. We started off into an empty row of apple trees, with

the baby happily in his stroller, sucking on a “baby-sized” apple that kept him happy for almost the entire trip! We (and when I say “we”, i mean hubby, of course!) picked 2 and a half bags of apples, while I snapped picture after picture, capturing every happy moment. I had big plans for those apples — they were to be made into applesauce (which has already been made — and was delicious!) and apple butter (which I’m currently missing a few ingredients for, but plan on making as soon as I get them).

After our trip down the row of apples we headed up to the “pumpkin patch.” I tried to choose a section where there weren’t too many people. The last thing you want in your family pictures are OTHER

people’s families holding their pumpkins! But of course, where there are pumpkins, there are people — and they just couldn’t stay away (or out of my pictures!).

We did the obligatory “sit the baby on a pumpkin” pose, and the “stand him up leaning on one,” too. We were with friends, so I was even able to get a few of the three of us in them, which barely EVER happens! I have ONE picture of the three of us, from in May for Mother’s Day — and that’s it! I’ve even given hubby a few pointers on how I like my pictures taken, so he got some good ones of the me and the baby, which I’m thankful for.
Our entire trip only lasted a little over an hour before the kids started to get tired and cranky, so that’s when we left! It was fun and I can’t wait to make our trip a yearly tradition!
And for fun, I’ll leave you with a few more pictures from the day (it was so hard to choose just a few, they all came out so good!):
